Natural History Tours

Trips for those who like to linger

Spend more time discovering the diverse species on Galapagos

Our Natural History Tours were originally conceived in response to the feeling that, for so many people, a Galapagos expedition cruise would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  For them, it would be important to maximize their time among the islands, and to expose both their senses and their minds to what this unique place was all about.  It would be equally important that they not be rushed through their visit, to take their time, to soak in the ambiance, to develop a sense of place.

The tours are perfect for natural history enthusiasts, amateur photographers and artists wanting to take a few moments for sketching.

If you are looking for a complete Galapagos immersion, stimulating both your senses and your mind, then this trip is for you.

Maximum Exposure

Our tours provide an in-depth orientation to the island’s animals and plants and their ecology and evolutionary processes. Site visits are slow-paced, allowing you to spend more time observing, feeling and taking in your surroundings. We start our days at sunrise, when wildlife is most active and conditions are best for photography. We often linger ashore until sunset for the same reason.

More Days at Sea

We spend a longer time in the islands with 11 days on board, you’ll experience a greater diversity of ecosystems, both above and below the sea –and be assured of a maximum viewing opportunity of the significant plant and animal species. We include 3 days in the volcanically-active western islands, where we whale-watch, see penguins, flightless cormorants, and giant tortoises in the wild.

Two Naturalist Guides

On our trips, you’ll enjoy having two guides, which gives us greater versatility while at visitor sites.  We hand pick our guides based on their experience, knowledge and wonderful ratings from previous guests. Our naturalist guides prepare  a series of interesting presentations on natural history aspects of the islands, incorporating most recent findings and events, ensuring that, your trip will be a rich learning experience.

The Montserrat

The 16 passenger Monserrat is locally owned and operated by and Ecuadorian family with strong Galapagos roots. and is the ship we use for our “natural history workshop” programs.

The Monserrat is among the highest end “tourist superior” ships travelling the Galapagos.

“A once in a lifetime trip so good I did it a second time.”

– Stark A, Galapagos 2008 & 2017
